Tamko Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

Rowan Construction Group Long Beach stocks and installs Tamko-compatible fence systems, with typical vinyl fence installation in Long Beach running $3,500-$9,000 depending on linear footage and terrain. We carry the post caps, rail brackets, and picket connectors that fail most often on Tamko residential lines, and we can usually schedule installation within a few business days. Most Long Beach homeowners discover the problem after winter storms off the Pacific push posts loose in the sandy Belmont Heights soil, or when the UV-hardened vinyl starts cracking after eight to ten years of direct coastal sun.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s residential fencing line centers on the Tamko Building Products Privacy Series and the Tamko Ranch Rail System, both common in Long Beach subdivisions built between 2005 and 2018. The Privacy Series uses a 5-inch by 5-inch post with a proprietary two-piece cap that snaps over a hidden rail bracket; the Ranch Rail uses a heavier 4-inch by 4-inch post with exposed brackets that corrode faster within two miles of the coast.

To identify your model, check the inside face of the bottom rail for an embossed Tamko date stamp and series code. If the stamp has worn off, measure the post wall thickness: Privacy Series posts are 0.150-inch wall, while Ranch Rail runs 0.130-inch. We stock both OEM Tamko hardware and quality aftermarket equivalents from DuraGate for the Ranch Rail brackets, which match the spec at roughly 60 percent of OEM cost. The aftermarket caps for the Privacy Series do not seat as cleanly in high wind zones like the Peninsula, so we typically spec OEM there. We are an independent service provider with no affiliation to Tamko.

Signs Your Tamko Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Tamko Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Post lean or wobble in the ground. In Long Beach, the sandy loam near Alamitos Bay drains fast but does not hold a post base well. Water gets in, the concrete footing cracks, and the post tilts toward the failed side. We see this most on west-facing runs that take the full brunt of afternoon storms.
  • Rail brackets pulling through the post wall. Tamko’s bracket uses a single lag-style fastener into thin-wall vinyl. After years of thermal expansion, the hole elongates and the bracket tears free. The fix is a backing plate or a post replacement, not a larger screw.
  • Horizontal rail sag between posts. The internal aluminum stiffener in Tamko rails corrodes from the ends inward in coastal air. By the time the rail visibly sags, the stiffener is usually gone for six inches or more on each end.
  • Picket tops cracking or yellowing. Tamko’s capstock UV layer is rated for 3,000 hours of accelerated weathering, which translates to roughly eight years in unshaded Long Beach conditions. Once the capstock fails, the substrate yellows within a season.
  • Gate latch misalignment that worsens seasonally. The gate post settles independently from the latch post, often because the gate post carries dynamic load while the latch post does not. In the Naples neighborhood, where fill soils settle for years, we see this gap open and close with the winter rain cycle.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Vinyl fence installation in Long Beach runs $3,500-$9,000 for a typical residential project, with the final number driven by linear footage, post depth requirements for your specific soil, and whether we are matching existing Tamko color that has faded. A straight 80-foot Privacy Series replacement on level ground in Bixby Knolls typically lands near the lower third of that range; a stepped installation on a sloped Signal Hill-adjacent lot with custom post extensions pushes toward the top.

Our quote is a flat written price with a written scope, delivered before any work starts. It includes demolition and haul-away of the old fence, Tamko-compatible materials or OEM spec, concrete footings at 24-inch depth minimum, and a one-year workmanship warranty backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price you sign is the price you pay; no change proceeds without a signed change order, which is the discipline that has kept our projects within a few percent of the agreed cost across 4,000-plus jobs since 2007.

There is nothing dangerous about fence work the way there is with garage door springs or gas lines, but there is plenty that goes wrong slowly and costs more to fix later. A homeowner can safely check post wobble with a firm hand-shake and look for the Tamko stamp on the rail. What DIY misses is the footing depth: Tamko spec calls for 24 inches in stable soil, but Long Beach’s sandy substrate often needs 30 inches plus a bell-shaped base to resist wind load. We have torn out three-year-old DIY fences in the El Dorado Park area where the posts were set at 18 inches and leaned six inches by the second winter.
