Belgard Driveway & Pavers: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Belgard-compatible pavers and driveway systems in Long Beach, with paver driveway installation typically running $7,000-$18,000 depending on pattern complexity and base prep. Most Belgard pattern replacements and repairs can be scheduled within a few business days, and we carry common Holland, Dublin, and Mega-Lafitt series units on our trucks for the Long Beach market. Homeowners usually discover a problem when individual pavers shift after winter rains, when polymeric sand washes out from the joints, or when they notice the driveway no longer drains toward the street the way it did when installed.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard’s residential driveway line breaks into a few series that handle Long Beach’s load requirements differently. The Holland Stone and Dublin Cobble lines are the most common in pre-2015 Long Beach installs, both running 60mm thickness for standard vehicular traffic. Mega-Lafitt and Lafitt Rustic Slab, popular in Belmont Shore and Naples-area projects from 2016 forward, run 80mm and handle the heavier SUVs common now. To identify your series, flip a loose paver: the mold code and production date are stamped on the vertical edge, not the face. The color code matters for matching, too, because Belgard’s Coastal Tan and Victorian blend differently batch to batch.

We source OEM Belgard where the pattern is still in production. For discontinued lines, we match to Techo-Bloc or quality aftermarket equivalents with comparable compressive strength (8,000 psi minimum per ICPI spec) and note the substitution in writing before any work starts. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price includes the part specification, so there is no bait-and-switch on color or texture.

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Individual pavers rock or sink when stepped on. This usually means the bedding sand layer has washed out or the base compacted unevenly. In Long Beach, the clay-heavy soil near the Los Angeles River corridor settles more aggressively than the sandier substrate closer to the coast, so base prep standards vary block by block.
  • Weeds growing through joints despite previous sealing. Polymeric sand degrades faster in full sun exposure, which is most of Long Beach from April through October. Once the binder breaks down, organic material fills the gap and root systems lift adjacent pavers.
  • Standing water 24 hours after rain. Proper Belgard installs pitch 1/8 inch per foot toward drainage. If water pools, the screed layer shifted or the edge restraint failed, letting the field spread and flatten. This accelerates freeze-thaw damage even in mild winters.
  • Chipped corners or spalling surface. Belgard’s face-mix technology puts color and density in the top 3/8 inch. Once that layer spalls, the coarser base concrete shows through. This is usually impact damage from metal-edged snow shovels or, in Long Beach more commonly, from contractors dragging heavy bins across the surface.
  • Edge pavers migrating outward. The plastic or concrete edge restraint cracked or the spikes rusted through. Near the port and Alamitos Beach, the higher soil salinity corrodes steel spikes faster than inland Long Beach, something we account for in material selection.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Price Range in Long Beach
Paver driveway installation (new) $7,000 - $18,000
Driveway replacement (remove and reinstall) $5,000 - $14,000
Sectional repair (up to 200 sq ft) $1,200 - $3,500
Polymeric sand reapplication $250 - $700
Edge restraint replacement $400 - $1,100

The range depends on three factors: how much of the base must be recompacted, whether the original pattern is still available, and access for our compaction equipment. A written quote from Rowan Construction Group breaks out part, labor, and disposal separately. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers settling, joint failure, or drainage issues that trace to our installation. We have kept projects within a few percent of the agreed price across 4,000-plus jobs because no change proceeds without a signed change order, and that discipline applies to driveway work the same as kitchen remodeling.

An owner can safely check a few things. Lift a loose paver and photograph the edge stamp, measure the joint width (typically 1/16 to 1/8 inch for Belgard), and verify whether water drains or pools. Do not attempt to recompact the base yourself. A plate compactor on an uneven screed layer will shatter pavers or create a wavy surface that traps more water. The bedding sand must be screeded to exact thickness, usually 3/4 to 1 inch, and recompacted in lifts. We have fixed Long Beach DIY repairs where the homeowner added sand on top of settled pavers, creating a hump that directed water toward the garage.
